Example Sites

Here are some examples of Web sites built by Active Service.

Barnet & District Angling Club

www.badac.co.uk

Being a club site, this was built to a tight budget, but incorporates some useful features enabling the club officers to update important information directly. For example, the secretary keeps a spreadsheet of match fixtures and results on his PC, and simply uploads it to the site through a password-protected Web page. The site contains script that converts the spreadsheet contents to attractive Web pages when viewed.

Mainly straight HTML, but some scripting in PHP.

This was a re-vamp of a previous rather poorly designed and maintained site, and has helped the club present timely information to members, and boosted their image.

Shelter Scotland and ROOF magazine

www.shelterscotland.org.uk  www.roofmag.org.uk

These sites were built for the UK housing charity Shelter, and display dynamic information stored in a database (note that only partial access to the ROOF site is available to non-subscribers).

The content of both these sites is in the form of continually changing articles, which are updated by authors using an integrated secure content management system, all of which was designed and built for Shelter by Active Service.

Coding is in ASP running on a Windows/IIS/SQL server.

Shelter have been particularly pleased with these sites, as this testimonial demonstrates.

The newlands company

www.newlands.co.uk

The Web site for a management consultancy, featuring structured information with simple self-authoring for the site owner. Pages are dynamically generated in a consistent style, populated with text held on a database.

Coding is in PHP running on a Linux/Apache/MySQL server.

Active Service

Not forgetting, of course, this site itself. This is a straight-forward site, built using templates to ensure consistency of appearance across pages.
