Multi-camera Mix - 5

Editing

So far I've showed how to record an event using multiple cameras, and how to import all the shots and sound-tracks into a single editor project so they are all time-synchronised. I'll now show how you can edit these tracks without losing synchronisation, so your final video will cut from camera to camera with the ease of a professional production.

Re-cap

The shot above shows the MediaStudio editor loaded with video and audio tracks, all synchronised as explained previously. There are tracks from two cameras, plus the sound from one of them, and a separate sound track captured from the PA. The video and audio tracks from Camera-1 have been split, illustrated by the fact that the Camera-1 video track is selected (with a dashed border) while the audio track is not. Splitting the video and audio enables them to be manipulated independently in the editor, although they still originate from the same file.

The shot below shows the same editor project in a more advanced state, where the scene alternates between cameras as you would expect. The question is, how do we get from 1 to 2 without losing synchronisation? The following pages will explain the answer.
