John Jones was born in Tynywaen, Llaneilian
in Amlwch to William and Ellen Jones nee Williams. (Birth
Certificate) He was awarded a scholarship and entered Bangor University
in October 1899 where he was awarded a 2nd class honours in Greek in 1902 and
a Teachers Certificate in 1903. He worked for a year in Dublin High School before
moving to Wigan Grammer School where he because assistant headmaster.
Curiously, he was resident in the house of his birth when the 1901 census was taken:

Ethel Banks Peters was born at 27 Chantry Street, West Derby, the eldest daughter of five children born to Peter and Sarah Peters nee Moston. Prior to her marriage she worked as a Postal Telegraphist.
Their marriage was witnessed by Ethel's brothers, sisters and mother and by Rowland Jones, brother of John.
