Thomas Roberts was born in Eirianalt, Vivod, near Llangollen and was baptised
on 29th May 1808 son of Evan (farmer) and Martha Roberts, Vivod (Llangollen
parish registers).
Anne Jones was baptised on 1st May 1808, daughter of Edward and Sarah Jones of The Bonk, Llwyn-Maur, Llangollen
They married in Llangollen on 8th May 1829, both of this parish, by banns. Described as "both upwards of 21 years", the witnesses were Edward Roberts and Margaret Jones.

More about the children of Thomas Roberts and Anne Jones:
Edward Roberts b 1840 Ty Newydd, married Catherine Lloyd (Sun Inn, Dreboeth) in 1867. Of their four children, two survived more than a few weeks; Thomas Edward Roberts was born in 1868 - he died on 11th February 1898 in Derry, N. Ireland; Elizabeth Roberts was born in 1870 - she married Hugh Hughes and had four known children: Kate; Rhoda; Price and Amy. Edward died on 20th February 1876 and Catherine remarried - David Jones (Anchor Inn, Rhosymedre). They went on to have three known children: Elizabeth; Sarah and Winifred.
Sarah Roberts b 1845 Ty Newydd died on 26th December 1854.
John Roberts b 1847 Ty Newydd married Ann Jones (Ty Cerrig) - the author's Great Grandparents - more about them on this page.
Evan Roberts b 1849 Ty Newydd married Elizabeth Jones b 1847 Plas Pentre, Glyn Ceiriog. They farmed Ty Newydd before moving on to Plas Isa, Glyndyfrdwy. They had five known children: Alice b 1877 who married Thomas Valentine Downes (chauffeur at Nantclwyd Hall Llanelidan); Annie b 1879 who married David Thomas (Carreg Afon); Sarah b 1882, married Edward Hughes of Derw Goed, Acrefair; Thomas b 1884, married Gwen Jones (Ty Cerrig, Vivod); and Elizabeth b 1885 who married Thomas William Jones of Cwm Isa. They had two children: Thomas Ifan and Emlyn. Following the death in 1919 of Thomas, Elizabeth remarried Hugh Edward Jones, Thomas' brother.
Thomas Roberts b 1851 Ty Newydd married Sarah Jones (Afon Ro) and farmed from Minffordd Cottage, Mwstwr before becoming farmer and inn keeper of the West Arms, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog. They had six known children: Thomas b 1874; Edward b 1877; Sarah b 1878; John Price b 1880; Amy b 1883 and Evan b 1887. Note an inscription on the back inside cover of the family bible:
