Sarah was born to Thomas Ridding and Sarah (source BVRI v2)
Joseph and Sarah have been identified from the birth certificate of Martha. She was born on 21 February 1839 in Pensioners Alley, George Street, Richmond, Surrey. The only other positive identification has been on the 1841 census living at the same address:
| Joseph Brown | 40 | Tallow Chandler | Not born in county |
| Sarah Brown | 40 | Not born in county | |
| Joseph Brown | 14 | Not born in county | |
| Sarah Brown | 10 | Born in county | |
| Ebenezer Brown | 7 | Born in county | |
| Martha Brown | 2 | Born in county |
They were married in Marylebone (Pallots), both otp and the witnesses were John Brown and Thomas Ridding.
The christening records of their children Sarah and Joseph are on the IGI - Sarah b 16 September 1817 was christened on 26 October 1817 in Ebenezer Chapel, Market St Mayfair Independent, Westminster, London; Joseph b 23 May 1819 was christened in the same chapel on 20 June 1819. Both these records are held in Dr William's Library, Nonconformist Registers. As the 1841 census entry includes a Sarah and Joseph of different birth years, it is assumed that the original Sarah and Joseph died.
Of their children, only Sarah, Ebenezer and Martha have been traced. Sarah married William Palmer in Spa Fields Chapel, Clerkenwell on 24 June 1855 and they have been identified in all census years from 1861. Throughout the period to 1901 they appear to be childless. Ebenezer married Jane (unknown) and has likewise been identified in all census years from 1861 thru 1901 living in Clerkenwell and/or Islington. In the 1861 census Ebenezer and Jane appear with their son Joseph aged 4 born St Andrew, Holborn, London, but he has not been identified elsewhere.
