Jonah was born in Hilperton, Wiltshire to William Moody (farmer) and Sarah Bolter. He was baptised at Hilperton Particular Baptist Chapel (entry 122). Jonah was 5 feet 8.5 inches tall with brown hair, grey eyes and a fresh complexion. On 5th December 1853 he joined the Metropolitan Police Force with N Division (Islington). He served for 22 years and 180 days before retiring on 20th November 1876 (aged 48) due to "debility and bronchitis" on a pension of £46 16s 0d per annum.
Elizabeth Franklin was born about 1825 in Trowbridge to John Franklin (engineer). No record has yet been found of her baptism.

Sarah Elizabeth Moody married Charles Love in 1869, Hackney. In 1871 they lived in College Street, London; 1881 in Heslop Place; 1891 in Tottenham and 1901 in Hyde Lane, Edmonton.
They had four known children:
1. Elizabeth Love - married Christian John Kuhler/Kubler (children: Edith 1890; John 1894; Alice 1897; Winifred 1900) in 1901 they lived at Wayletts Farm Cottages, Dunson, Billericay, Essex.
2. Edith Love - married Alfred George Fisher in 1896, Edmonton, Mdx (children: Charles 1898; William 1900). In 1901 they lived at 47 Ranalagh Rd, Tottenham, Mdx.
3. Louisa Love - born 1875, Highbury London married Charles Edward Denyar in 1897, Edmonton. One child (Doris Denyar) is shown on the 1901 census with them in Tottenham, Middlesex.
4. Charles Love - born 1878, Homerton - he was a boarder at The Fleece, Springfield, Essex in 1901.

Martha Moody born 1857 in Hackney, married Alfred Jarvis in 1877, Shoreditch. They had three known children: Florence b 1880; Edith b 1885; and Beatrice b 1887. In 1881 they lived in Wick Road, Hackney; 1891 in Tottenham and 1901 Walthamstow.

Oliver William Moody, born 1859 in Hackney has only been positively identified with his family on the 1861 and 1871 census. It is possible he is on the 1910 USA census in Cook, Illinois aged 50. The record shows that he was widowed and living with Florence E Moody, 28; Leroy William Moody, 20; Henery A Moody, 18; and Minnie B Moody, 15. In 1920 Oliver W Moody is aged 60 and living with Leroy Moody aged 30, son.
