DirectCD 5.01 in EnglishDirectCD build 141 update for WinOnCD usersIf you use WinOnCD 3.8 the only DirectCD update patch available to you is here, on the German Roxio site. However, unlike the DirectCD you installed originally from the WinOnCD disk, this update is in German only. Here's how to get it into English.
That's it! All DirectCD's interface, menu options, help files, etc. should now run in English. As far as I can see, doing this has no effect on the functionality of DirectCD, but if you follow the process above you do so at your own risk. I am merely suggesting a solution you may wish to try out for yourself, and accept no liability for any adverse effect it may have on your system or data. Why it works (or appears to!)As far as I can see, this update contains only low-level bug fixes - I'm not even sure what's fixed - with no updates to interface or functionality. The translations to most of the internal program text are contained in the .LOC files, if these are removed then the relevant text appears in English (which is how DirectCD is actually written). If you're cautious you may want to take just this step, which can have no effect on functionality. The interface will end up mixed-language, but probably workable for an English-speaking user. Of the files copied from the original CD, DirectCDBF.dll is the "skin" for the DirectCD program window, and Shellex.dll provides the context menu and property sheets for the CD drive in Explorer. The remainder are the original English help files. The German help appears to have had only minor changes, so I doubt there is any significant new information though I don't know for sure. Let me knowIf you know any more about this update, especially any details of what it fixes, please email me. Or just let me know whether it worked, or if you had any trouble. |
